- Jane Harrell Lambert

"The funeral service for Jane Harrell Lambert, 92, of Bainbridge, Ga., will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Al Reese, Dr. Danny Shepard and the Rev. Paul Medley officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Lt. Col. Shane Lambert, John Lambert Edwards, Chester A. Curnane III, Warren W. Plowden Jr., Tom Conger, Wayne Lambert Jr., Gene Miller and Gerard Kwilecki III serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at her residence, 2004 Douglas Drive, Bainbridge, Ga.
Mrs. Lambert was born in Decatur County, Ga., and died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at her residence. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1932 and attended Duke University and the University of Florida. She then graduated from the University of Georgia and received her Library Science Certificate from Florida State University.
During World War II, she served in the American Red Cross as the recreational activities director for wounded veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bethesda, Md. She taught school in Brinson, Dalton and Climax, Ga., and served her last 12 years teaching English and history at Bainbridge High School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, her last 25 years with the Lydia Sunday School Class. She actively supported the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, was vice-president of the Women's Missionary Union of Georgia, was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, past chairperson of the Decatur-Seminole Regional Library, past chairperson of the Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library, past president of The Book Club, past president of the Bainbridge Chapter of the American Association of University Women and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Troop Leader.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Lambert of Bainbridge, Ga.; her son, John C. "Jack" Edwards of Ball Ground, Ga.; her sister, Anne Harrell Curnane of Belleville, Ill., three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her devoted housekeeper, Ruby Eidson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 155, Bainbridge, GA 39818 or to Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library, 301 S. Monroe St., Bainbridge, GA 39819."
