      Voucher No. 2

Division of the Estate of Edmund B. Clay
      Deceased made 12th February 1857

Georgia By virtue of an order from the
Terrell County Honorable Court of Ordinary of
said County on the Second Monday in January last
part to us directed authorizing and requiring us to make
a distribution of the Estate of Edmund B Clay Deceased
among the distributors entitled to said Estate. We proceed
this day to the performance of that duty ~
There were four distributors To Wit John W.
Clay son of said Deceased. David H. Clay son of said
Deceased Sarah A. Clay daughter of said Deceased and
Sarah Clay widow of said Deceased. We proceeded
first to ascertain what amount of money had come to
the hands of Lewis Clay the administrator on said Estate
and found the aggregate amount to be the sum of Five
thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Five Dollars and
Sixty five centz " We next proceeded to ascertain what
amount of money the said Lewis Clay administrator has
paid out for the benefit of said Heirs paying the debts
and found as appeared from vouchers that he had paid
out the Sum of One Thousand Five Hundred and ninety-
one Dollars and fifty-one centz [sic] together with the Exemption
which he is allowed as administrator for which amount
we gave him credit we then proceeded to deduct the amt
of said Credit from his first indebtedness and found that
up to this day said administrator was indebted to said
Estate the sum of Four thousand Two hundred and ninety-
three dollars and fourteen centz. which we then proceeded
to distribute among the Four Heirs which are heretofore
mentioned. We found by Examination of the certified
export[?] of the Distributors previously appointed to divide and
set apart the negroes belonging to said Estate that some of
the Heirs had received more in value than some others
So that money had to be paid back from one to another
to make up the deficiency, also that the Administrator
had paid out more money for the benefit of one Heir
than for another which makes the final Receipt as followz

Distribution of the Estate of Edmund B Clay Deceased among the Four Heirs legally entitled to share in said Estate.

Division of the Estate of Edmund B. Clay Deceased
made on 12th February 1857 Continued

To Sarah A. Clay we award the sum of $858.13.

    • A marriage record book with an index for Wilkinson County, GA lists a marriage between Edmund Clay and "Sallie" Jones. However, the county courthouse burned in 1854, and this record was destroyed. The Wilkinson County courthouse confirms that the marriage records are missing from 1828-1865. Those earlier and later than these two dates are on file.
