    • He enlisted at Camp Leon, Florida under the name of G. W. Rich. He served under Captain Pat Houston. He was on detail to guard the commissary at Quincy, Florida. He was at Camp Leon, six miles from Tallahassee when Gen. Jos. E. Johnston surrendered, under whose command he served. He was honorably discharged at Tallahassee, Florida.

    • This date is stated in his pension application, but in a 1908 affidavit, he also states he has been in Florida 30 years, making the date closer to 1878. He was married in Florida in 1877, so the first date seems more reasonable.
