    • "Tom Bumgarner Dies Unexpectedly
      James Thomas (Tom) Bumgarner, 48, of Wilkesboro, died unexpectedly at four a. m. Saturday at his home. He had been in apparently normal health and death was attributed to a heart attack.

      He was a member of a prominent Wilkes family and a life-long resident of Wilkesboro. He was born May 24, 1911, son of Linville and Bessie McNeil Bumgarner. For more than 20 years he held a position with the service department of Duke Power Company of North Wilkesboro.

      Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Wilson Bumgarner, and two sons, Thomas and Donald Bumgarner of the home; three brothers, E. E. Bumgarner of Winston-Salem, Rom L. Bumgarner and Mayor Charles G. Bumgarner, both of Wilkesboro; six sisters, Mrs. R. O. Poplin of Elkin; Miss Pearl Bumgarner of Wilkesboro, Mrs. C. M. Hart of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. J. V. Jennings of Petersburg, Va., Mrs. J. B. Gilreath of North Wilkesboro and Mrs. W. H. Riley of Raleigh.

      Funeral services were conducted Sunday, 4:30 p.m., at Wilkesboro Baptist Church by the Rev. Henry Morgan, pastor. Burial was in Mountain Park Cemetery in Wilkesboro.

      Active pallbearers were Frank Roe, Raymond Pierce, Paul Nichols, T. E. Norman, Quincy Brooks, John Glass and William Pegram. Honorary pallbearers were Robert S. Gibbs, Eugene Parks, Ambrose Lyall, E. C. Nichols, Clifford Spears, Robert Marsh, James G. Johnson, James R. Pendry, Archie Anderson, David L. Parks, Clyde H. Blevins, O. E. Triplett, Robert Smoot, Ronald Ording.

      Flowers were carried by employees of Duke Power Co. employees: Lottie Swaringen, Margaret Wells, Jane Billings, Betty Conley, Blanche Gregory, Colena Lambert, Sue C. Shumate and wives of male employees."
